About the Green Rajasthan Initiative

About the Green Rajasthan Initiative

The Green Rajasthan Initiative (GRI) is Ayudhi Care Foundation's flagship sustainability and environmental program — an integrated set of community interventions that address Rajasthan's environmental challenges through grassroots awareness, women-led enterprise, and behaviour change campaigns.

Running under three program streams — the RRR Centre (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), Waste to Wealth, and the Eco-Holi and plantation campaigns — GRI reaches communities across Jodhpur with a message that environmental responsibility is not someone else's job. It is everyone's, and it starts at home.

GRI aligns with the Swachh Bharat Mission, the National Action Plan on Climate Change, and the UN SDGs 11, 12, and 13. Dr. Ila Sharma serves as Swachhta Brand Ambassador for Jodhpur — giving Ayudhi formal institutional recognition for its environment work.

Plantation Drives Across Jodhpur:

Rajasthan's desert geography and rapid urbanisation have led to significant loss of green cover — worsening heat island effects, reducing groundwater recharge, and increasing vulnerability to climate extremes. Ayudhi's plantation program addresses this through:

Community Plantation Drives Quarterly mass-plantation events in partnership with local schools, panchayats, and community groups. Native, drought-resistant species are planted and assigned to community members for adoption and care. Each drive plants 500–1,000 saplings.

School Plantation Program In partnership with 15+ government schools, Ayudhi runs a "One Student, One Tree" initiative — where each student plants and tends a sapling in their school compound, building long-term environmental stewardship from childhood.

Women-Led Green Teams SAJAG's community groups include dedicated "green teams" — women who take ownership of local green spaces, public gardens, and roadside tree planting. These teams become the environmental conscience of their communities.

Ecosystem Education Plantation drives are accompanied by awareness sessions on the ecological importance of trees, the impact of deforestation, and how communities can protect and expand local green cover.

Results so far:

  • Thousands of saplings planted across Jodhpur district
  • 15+ partner schools engaged
  • Seasonal plantation events align with World Environment Day, Van Mahotsav, and Swachh Bharat campaigns
From Waste to Wealth: Women Leading the Circular Economy

From Waste to Wealth: Women Leading the Circular Economy

Waste to Wealth — Turning Trash into Income:

Waste to Wealth is Ayudhi's most innovative program — one that sits at the intersection of environmental sustainability and women's livelihood. Women are trained to transform discarded materials into handcrafted products, building income while reducing waste.

Materials Upcycled:

  • Fabric scraps from tailoring units → bags, wallets, cushion covers
  • Plastic bottles and packaging → planting pots, organisers, art materials
  • Paper and cardboard → gift boxes, greeting cards, stationery
  • Agricultural waste → decorative items, natural dyes, compost

Training Program: 8-week structured upcycling training at the RRR Centre, covering material identification, basic craftsmanship, product design, quality control, and market-ready packaging.

RRR Centre Operations: The RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Centre is Ayudhi's physical sustainability hub — a community space for:

  • Waste segregation education and practice
  • Upcycling workshops for women and children
  • Material collection and sorting drives
  • Display and sale of Waste to Wealth products
  • Environmental awareness events and school visits

Impact:

  • 150+ women trained as Waste to Wealth entrepreneurs
  • 5,000+ kg of waste redirected from landfill
  • Average monthly income of graduates: ₹4,000–₹6,000
  • Aligned with Swachh Bharat Mission · SDG 11, 12, 13
Changing Behaviour, One Campaign at a Time

Changing Behaviour, One Campaign at a Time

Green Rajasthan's Awareness Campaigns:

Behaviour change at scale requires consistent, creative community engagement. GRI runs year-round awareness campaigns that connect environmental issues to daily life — in language communities understand and through experiences they remember.

Eco-Holi Campaign Ayudhi's signature awareness initiative — run annually before the Holi festival — promotes the use of natural, plant-based colours over toxic chemical ones. Communities are provided with natural colour-making workshops, and distribution of eco-friendly colour packets. The campaign reaches thousands of households across Jodhpur each year.

Anti-Plastic Drives Quarterly community campaigns to reduce single-use plastic — including:

  • Street-level awareness rallies with students and women
  • Plastic collection drives with segregation and recycling linkages
  • Distribution of cloth bags made by Waste to Wealth graduates
  • Business awareness sessions for local shops and vendors

Climate Awareness Workshops School and community sessions covering:

  • What climate change is and how it affects Rajasthan specifically
  • Water conservation practices for households and farms
  • Energy efficiency in daily life
  • The link between individual actions and global outcomes

World Environment Day & Van Mahotsav Events Annual flagship events that bring together schools, community groups, government partners, and the media for large-scale plantation, clean-up, and awareness activities.

Swachh Bharat Alignment: All GRI campaigns are aligned with the Swachh Bharat Mission — with documentation, reporting, and official recognition. Dr. Ila Sharma's role as Swachhta Brand Ambassador for Jodhpur gives GRI formal government backing.
